A classic steam locomotive in New Zealand (all thumbnail images on this page are clickable)

My favorite photo from a 1997 trip to Las Vegas. The main entrance to the "New York, New York" Casino, captured at night with a 1/15 sec handheld exposure.
From the same trip, a view of the Colorado River below Hoover Dam. The generators are located in these buildings. 1997
This is the Avon River in Christchurch, New Zealand. The site of a yearly bicycle race, the participants run down the center carrying their favorite bikes. 1979
These sheep skins have been hung up to dry in the sun, New Zealand.
Some crazy waves, Napier, NZ 2005
The "Slug and Lettuce" pub is located in Worcester, UK. 1995
In the Cornwall area of England, Penzance harbor at low tide. 1983
The "Admiral Benbow" pub in Penzance. Note the "villain" on the roof. 1983
Jamaica Inn, Cornwall, England. A famous pub for pirates and a made-for-TV drama. 1983
The Cam River running through the colleges of Cambridge, England. 1983
This bridge somewhere in Scotland looks very precarious. My friend Robin is testing it ... while I wait in the car. 1984
Southend-on-Sea, east of London on the mouth of the Thames estuary. This grand hotel overlooking the sea, "The Palace," was abandoned. The local accent is my favorite in the UK. 1982
The ultimate green. Farmland in the North Island of New Zealand.
At this military / political parade in Budapest, May 1980, I unwittingly found myself in the middle of a "young communists" style rally. No one seemed to notice that I didn't have the red and green neckerchiefs, but it took a few minutes before I got the nerve to run for it. The East Block leaders are overlooking the huge crowd in the sub-freezing temperature.

Another shot of the parade. I actually asked a policeman if I could take photos as I seemed to be the only person with a camera.

A show of military force from communist Hungary. This photo reminds me of a propaganda poster.

The famous Lorelei rock bend on the Rhine River in Germany, where shipping accidents were blamed on sirens who would call from the cliffs. 1980
A gaggle of Trabbies seen in their native environment in the prior East Germany, at Nordhausen immediately after the Berlin Wall was dismantled. 1989
Ducatis outside a motel in Blenheim, New Zealand, from best to worst. Mine is at the far end. 1978
A winter trip to Twizel in the South Island of New Zealand with the Italian Motorcycle Owners Club, and friends. I think this is Lake Pukaki. There are four Ducatis and one MotoGuzzi. 1977
An un-expected storm on the peak of the Arthurs Pass. The only way we got down the ice-covered road towards Christchurch was to keep the engine off and use the clutch as a brake. We needed both feet on the ground to keep the bike upright. None of the cars or trucks waiting at the top dared drive down the mountain, but we were in no position to spend the night there. 1977
My Ducati 450 Desmo in the same location. 1977
Our student flat "Bologna House" at 14 Dublin St, Christchurch, New Zealand, named after the home of Ducati Mechanica. The four 750 Ducatis were kept in the house to keep that Italian "chrome" from peeling off. I'm the bearded character at the left. 1977
The cars on the street (and that Laverda 750SF2 parked in the middle) give you an idea of what the neighborhood was like. Our neighbors must have thought we were a biker gang. 1977
While working at engine test manufacturer Froude-Consine in the UK, I had occasion to visit Audi at Nekarsulm, Germany, whom had deployed our "robot driver" to drive a manual transmission car on a chassis dynamometer. The robot had an intermittent problem so I rode along in the back seat to watch it. Two hours later it finally showed up - trying to pull away from a start without lifting the clutch. 1983
Pannikin - me in my favorite coffee shop in La Jolla, California, just before moving back to NZ. 2004

At the 1982 Isle of Man Tourist Trophy motorcycle races with friend Phil.

The most amazing mall I've ever seen: The "Living Mall" in Taipei, Taiwan. The cross-sectional view is here.
In 1980 and 1981 we spent 3 weeks vacationing at this beach in Praia de Roche, Algarve, Portugal. The drive from Germany passed through France and Spain and took about five days each way.
A stop somewhere in Spain on the way to Portugal. It was very hot and the Mercedes 200 did not have A/C.
New flatmates Jeff, Kevin, and Jo testing out the only chair in the living room. Just one lucky shot, taken handheld using a borrowed Nikormat EL with a 70-210 Vivitar Series-1 zoom at 70mm, f3.5, 1/30 sec on 400 ASA Ilford film. 1977
